Analysis of opening credit sequence - Panic Room - Dilys

Although a very different style of opening credits for a thriller, Panic Room's simplistic shots and powerful use of font and framing in the opening has great impact on the audience.

The opening shot is of a vast city full of extremely cramped tall buildings, this is interesting as it suggests something modern and urban but also a place with a very large and dense population. This is important as it creates irony, because in the film the two women are trapped and no one knows about it, even though there are hundreds of people living all around them.

The credits in the sequence stand out, they are very bold in a white standard font but what makes them interesting is the fact that they are in 3D, as it implies a theme of something modern and different. The credits also seem to be suspended in the air which conveys an idea of suspense on the film and 'sat on the edge of your seat' scenes.

The positioning of the text is also significant as it is all neatly placed alongside buildings and streets, which infers that there is structure and tight scrapes in the film.

The music in the sequence is quite eerie and evil it also speeds up as the name of the film appears  and an emphatic beat can be heard which suggests that film will be fast and action filled. The sound of the city, like the car horns and bustle of people can be heard but only very quietly suggesting that although it is a busy place a theme of isolation will be on the film also.
